The CMP chiefly comprises:

• a housekeeping management centre that controls housekeeping systems, determines satellite orbits, manages the attitude and orbit control subsystem, and archives data used to keep a check on satellite health; this centre also manages the DORIS instrument, which interfaces with the DORIS control centre at CLS.
• a mission control centre that generates satellite programming messages in accordance with the workplan uplinked by the SSOC, and where engineers can make checks on the image acquisition process whenever needed; this centre also houses the VEGETATION Programming Centre (CPV).

The CMP has satellite simulators for developing corrective actions in the event of an anomaly and for training operators.

Readying the CMP for SPOT 5 also provided the opportunity to make improvements based on lessons learned from operating previous generations of SPOT satellites.
These improvements have been operational since November 2001.
