As satellite operator, CNES is responsible for:

• satellite positioning and stationkeeping,
• satellite system monitoring,
• instrument payload programming,
• product quality control.

These functions are performed by the satellite operations ground segment (SSOC), which comprises two entities: the Operations Control Centre (CMP) and the image quality centre.

The CMP controls and monitors the SPOT satellites, programs their payloads and coordinates all ground facilities.
It uplinks commands and receives telemetry to keep track of the satellites through the CNES network of 2-GHz tracking stations.

The image quality centre is responsible for product quality control.
